SAN ANGELO — A husband-and-wife duo has opened a business selling home-baked goods in San Angelo, including pretzels and cinnamon rolls.
Rye of All Trades was opened in 2022 by baker husband Rye Ornelas and wife Mikera, who handles marketing and orders.
“We are ‘Rye of All Trades’ meaning that pretty much anything you’d like can be done,” Rye said. “We even offer other services such as digital art, chunky handmade blankets, handmade cards for birthdays, anniversary, holidays.”

Rye took the time to answer questions about his business:
How did you get started in this business?
I’ve always been told I should sell my food, and after getting a Kitchen Aid Mixer for Christmas I decided to do just that. I started with all things pretzel, and I’ve added cinnamon rolls. I’m always looking to expand what I can make.
What was the inspiration for your business name?
I’ve always been a “Jack of All Trades,” but I don’t know who Jack is, so Rye of All Trades was born.
Who was your biggest supporter when you started?
My family has been my biggest support system in getting started. I always have a willing taste tester in my wife, dad and brother. My mom is my go-to when it comes to perfecting my recipes.
What should make your business stand out?
All of our products are made-to-order to ensure that our customers are getting the most fresh product possible. We are also able to customize our orders to fit our customers’ needs/wants. We are looking into offering sugar-free options so that even those cutting out sugar can enjoy our treats.
What’s the biggest challenge running your business?
The biggest challenge I’ve faced is maintaining the pricing I originally set with the recent increase in cost of supplies. Keeping prices consistent and as low as possible are my priorities.
